C19th George IV period rosewood library table
C19th George IV period rosewood library or centre table . Directly attributable design to Gillows of Lancaster , top quality table fitted 2 mahogany-lined drawers with brass locks and key, panelled 'dummy' drawers to reverse. Elegant twin-column end supports with stylish carved collar above .The legs with Gillows design carved knees and 'dolphin-mask' feet with concealed/recessed brass castors. Carved and turned stretcher base ,with 'reel-and-bead' carved mould to frieze . All these stylistic features are shown on impressed and attributed Gillows tables both in the firm's drawings in their 'Lancaster Estimate Sketch Book' held in The City of Westminster Archive ,and illustrated and discussed in "Gillows of Lancaster and London " by Susan E .Stuart.( see Vol. I plate nos 274 & 275 p.268. + plate GG36 p.382). Though unsigned and without an impressed stamp, the quality of design, selection of timber and build-quality ,lead us directly to a Gillow attribution. Good original condition , nice gently-faded colour to strikingly-figured top, rich patina to base with no breaks, repairs or losses. Cleaned and waxed.

Fine early C19th Regency period ormolu-mounted rosewood sofa table in 'as found' , 'country-house' condition , attributed to Gillows.
Fine early C19th Regency period ormolu-mounted rosewood sofa table in 'as found' , 'country-house' condition , attributed to Gillows.

Twin-flap rosewood and simulated rosewood , sofa table supported on classical lyre-end supports . The inverted shaped stretcher with 'faux" rosewood painted grain simulation . Fitted with 2 cedar-lined drawers to both sides , the edges mounted with fine ormolu applied mount decoration (minor sectional losses). Each of the 4 drawers fitted with 2 original gilded brass circular knobs , brass locks and key escutcheons (no key present).

The impressive Grecian-inspired dramatically shaped and moulded lyre ends with gilded brass rod 'strings' . On the lateral support to each end beneath the lyre, is a finely-cast double anthemion ended ormolu mount . The design taking its inspiration from antiquity and ancient classical Empires, as popularised in this period by the fashionable exponents of re-visited classicism such as Thomas Hope ,Charles Heathcote Tatham and George Smith.

Carved leaf detail to the hip or knee of the sabre-type legs , channelled carving to the legs which terminate in conforming channelled flush-fitting brass box socket castors .

Superb quality and design throughout , the moulded-edge top of well-chosen highly-figured timber. Attributed by design and quality to Gillows of Lancaster & London . Similar lyre-ended rosewood tables are illustrated in "Gillows of Lancaster & London" by Susan E .Stuart.

In need of some minor attention and restoration , having come straight from an English country-house source .

All original throughout , retaining its original polish and 'skin' .

A rare and exceptional table of superior quality and arresting design.

Rare C19th New Zealand specimen-wood top walnut side or lamp table. A fine and mint-clean example of a Victorian period parquetry-work specimen wood table . Almost certainly the work of the Bohemian emigre cabinet-maker Anton Seuffert , who was re known for his parquetry design furniture made in Auckland using native New Zealand woods .Octagonal top on 4-pillar turned supports onto cruciform base with leaf-carved scroll feet and central finial. The top inlaid with a large selection of exotic wood veneers , including walnut, ebony, rosewood, palm-wood, maple and amboyna. Geometric 'fan' design with star/compass-style centre, the edges with chevron inlay. No damage , losses, repairs or woodworm and good consistent colour. H 29 " x W 22" .New Zealand c.1870

Superior quality early C19th George IV period mahogany dressing table firmly attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. Fitted with 3 mahogany-lined 'cock-beaded' drawers with quarter dust-beads, original ring-turned knobs , with a 3/4 reeded-edge gallery up-stand. Standing upon finely reeded legs with a typical Gillow's pattern turned foot into a maker's stamped and patented top-quality brass socket castor. Exhibiting all the quality and design features of the Gillows workshops, executed in a finely-figured superior grade of mahogany. The reeded edges , reeded mouldings and reserve panels at top of the legs also a classic design feature of this much sought-after and lauded firm of Lancaster cabinet-makers.

Excellent condition with only very minor marks to the top commensurate with age and use.

Early C19th late George III period mahogany sofa table. High-quality classic mahogany sofa table of very elegant proportions , standing on reeded swept sabre supports. Fitted two slim 'cock-beaded' frieze drawers with 'dummys' in reverse, all fitted original knobs ,with reeded diamond decoration to ends. Desirable high 'invisible' stretcher and 'standard-end' supports with reeded panel reserves , fitted with square brass box-cap castors . Reeded edge to top, reeded stretcher, reeded legs and reeded mould decoration. The twin drop-flap ends each fitted with double 'fly' bracket supports, opening to form a completely flat and true surface. Excellent original colour and patination, in entirely untouched original condition. The drawer fronts fitted with bone 'diamond' escutcheons,a feature which alludes to a north of England origin , whilst the grade and choice of timber ,quality of design and construction,all point to a possible 'Gillows' of Lancaster attribution. A wonderful table which combines function, elegance of design and practicality. As well as a centre or reception room table, could also be used as either a writing,drawing or dressing table , with the high stretcher allowing for use with a chair and providing ample leg-room. Finely inlaid pair of George III period style 'Sheraton-revival' satinwood tables with octagonal galleried tops and inlaid shaped stretchers. Elegant flower-head design inlay to the cross-banded tops , with inlaid swags to the friezes . Raised upon finely tapering linlaid legs , terminating in brass-ball feet . Both fitted with a retracting slide with brass knop pull. The tops of the legs with decorative brass moulding .
All original condition , polish and finish .
No breaks ,losses or repairs.
One table suffering from minor cigarette scolding to area of top which could be re-polished if required.

Early C19th circular top specimen-wood veneered table on low base. 'Coffee'/reception-room height table featuring a stunning radiating and concentric marquetry veneered specimen-wood top. A huge variety of exotic, tropical and indigenous woods ,including rosewood, satinwood, ebony, coromandel, oak, birch, box-wood and walnut. Chequer-work bands and stringing throughout the design. A stunning colour and patination. The associated base constructed in satin birch or beech in a faux/simulated bamboo design, with 4 supports. A shallow frieze beneath and 'chinoiserie' bracket corners. A great piece of workmanship , combining in a highly decorative and practical table. The top probably produced in Tunbridge Wells ,Kent ,a renowned centre for the manufacture of such wares, whilst the bespoke base undoubtedly made by the London retailers in what is their signature design. A glass top could be supplied if desired to fit. Provenance: bought from Mallett Fine Antiques , at 'Bourdon House' , London in 1980's. Cleaned and waxed. Dia. 36" x H 18". England c.1830

Vibrantly coloured needle-work interior in early C18th style in perfect condition ,depicting playing cards ,gambling chips etc .The shaped fold-over top with 'guinea counter' scoop corners or candle-wells. Early C19th Regency period mahogany centre pedestal occasional or lamp-table. Finely-proportioned elegant single-drawer table of free-standing symmetrical design . Reeded-edge top ,with reeded decoration to shaped drawer-front. The single mahogany-lined shallow 'concealed' frieze drawer with scroll ends and paterae/draught terminals. The reverse with identical silhouette frieze. Raised on finely-turned column , onto quadrupite concave base. Scrolled and moulded shaped legs of exaggerated form ,with hipped paterae decoration , paterae-mounted inverted scroll toes with gilt-metal ball feet. Excellent condition and mellow patina , the top having benefitted from re-polishing some 20 years ago. Cleaned and waxed ready to use.(Inventory mark/initials painted to underside of top)

Faithful copies of an important pair of C18th Robert Adam (1728-1792) design tables influenced by his interpretations of the architectural elements of Ancient Rome . Solid Cuban mahogany tops, moulded tapering square-section legs, with carved detail to ends. Good colour and condition with some marks and stains to tops consistent with age and aging .A useful pair of neo-classical style tables of C18th design. Rare C19th New Zealand marquetry/parquetry top tripod base occasional table in the manner of Anton Sueffert. Marquetry 'star-on-star' radiating motif circular top inlaid with New Zealand indigenous specimen timber veneers, thumb-moulded edge . The tripod scroll-foot base with carved finial and swollen turned stem.
The top fitted onto the base by wooden screw dowel , the shaped bearer beneath of distinctive shape and form .

The timbers used appear to include Totara , Rewarewa, Kohekohe and numerous others.

Made in the manner and style of the celebrated emigre cabinet-maker Anton Sueffert ,renown for this type of inlaid furniture and the use of native New Zealand timbers.

Excellent original condition with no losses to marquetry top.
Good original patina , has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

Matched 'pair' of late C19th Anglo-Indian carved shisham octagonal tables on folding bases.

High quality tightly-carved octagonal tops of varying carved detail but of identical size , design and scale . Each with geometric and trailing floral and leaf motif designs . The folding and hinged carved bases each with intricate 'pinjra' or 'bird-cage' work , geometric open-fret-work panels of the type traditionally employed in Indian architecture.

Produced by principally Sikh craftsmen in the Simla (or Shimla) hill-top region of Northern India , in locally sourced "shisham" timber for export to the English market .

Both tables of matching dimensions and scale , excellent matched pair of tables to bring symmetry to an interior scheme.

Each table in excellent original condition with no breaks, damage or losses. One table slightly darker in colour , both in dry untouched state . Could be waxed and 'colour-matched' if desired.

Highly fashionable in England during the late C19th , these exotic imports and similarly designed articles of furniture , were produced for leading retailers such as ' Liberty's ' of London .

Comprising a pair of circular 'drum' tables with reeded column supports , crossed arrow design , 'milled' decoration frames with rosette paterae roundels, together with a matching oblong table . Well-cast elements ,with good detail to the arrow-points and fleches.

Stylish and elegant set of tables providing practical heights and period-style design to complement an interior.

Good aged 'verdigris' /distressed patina .
