Description

Early C19th Regency period rosewood cross-banded mahogany drop-leaf sofa table .
Fresh-to-market ‘as found’ countryhouse condition mahogany drop-leaf sofa table with an attractive pale uniformly sun-bleached top . Raised on quadruple reeded sabre supports fitted with original brass claw castors and acanthus leaf carved knees , the concave-sided quadrupite platform base with a central ring-turned column with alternating ebonised detail . The sides of the base with narrow rosewood cross-banded detail .
The frieze of the rectangular top fitted with 2 ‘blind’ asymmetrical drawers with a central tablet and corresponding rosewood banded edges .
The flame-veneered mahogany top with a broad inset border of rosewood banding . The top having achieved an unusual and attractive uniform pale sun-bleached colour and patina through direct exposure to sunlight for a long period of its life .
The drop-leaf ends supported by twin shaped folding ‘fly’ supports to each leaf .
Of free-standing form with corresponding divided frieze to the reverse without the fitting of drawers .
A classical design sofa table of practical proportions in good original condition with an unusual patina and ‘skin’ to the top .
The top with some minor historic marks and rings commensurate with age , use and purpose.
