Early C19th Regency period mahogany double-sided pedestal 'partners' desk.
Early C19th Regency period mahogany double-sided pedestal 'partners' desk . Well-proportioned 3-part pedestal desk of excellent quality in good original condition. Good grade of figured mahogany with "quilted" grain. Classic arrangement of nine drawers ,with three drawers to reverse and 2 cupboards . The square-panelled opposing cupboards , one fitted with shelf , the other with shaped folio dividers. All drawers are cedar-lined with quartered dust-beads to the corners ,quality dove-tails and brass-screwed bases to the rear. Fitted with brass locks (working key to centre drawer and rear cupboards), and drawers are fitted with turned mahogany knob pulls (3 quality matching replacements)and fitted with brass key estucheons.
The replaced single-piece black leather top has been 'blind-tooled' with a classical anthemion motif and border , with rubbed gold-line inner ,imitating the worn-out original. Raised on original wooden-wheel castors concealed beneath the stepped plinth.

Good-size 'knee-hole' opening ,to accommodate an office or library chair .

Original rich patina ,with some marks and colour variation commensurate with age and use.
Cleaned, waxed and checked in our workshops , ready to use.

**NB This desk was bought from a VAT registered company and as such has been priced subject to VAT at standard rate included , therefore a VAT registered company or business purchasing the desk would be entitled to claim back the VAT content (ie .800)

Rare mid C19th pollard oak pedestal desk .Good quality pollard oak veneered 3-part pedestal desk of 9 drawers. Stunning figured timber which has achieved a wonderful golden honey-coloured patina and hue. Stands on original wooden castors and fitted with old replacement cast-brass knobs and brass key escutcheons to the drawers . Fitted with brass locks stamped with an 'H' with an arrow (probably Hobbs & Co. London) together with a single key which operates all. The replacement black leather inset writing panel an exact copy of the worn-out original, with 'blind' tooled edging and centre motif and thin gold line within. Of free-standing form with highly-figured inset panels to the reverse.

A well-proportioned practical desk with great decorative qualities. In excellent ready-to-use condition .

Divides into 3 parts in the traditional manner for ease of movement and transportation .

C19th burr-walnut and floral marquetry inlaid ormolu-mounted 'bureau plat' or writing table. English in the French Louis XV taste. Of serpentine outline with single 'concealed' frieze drawer, well-figured walnut veneers and good quality gilt-bronze ormolu mounts on shaped cabriole legs. Pretty coloured floral marquetry inlaid top ,together with original faded green and gilt tooled-leather inset top. Cross-grain moulded edge of strikingly selected figured timber.

Stamped on drawer edge "Edwards and Roberts, Wardour St., London". Edwards and Roberts were a well-respected firm of quality cabinet-makers and retailers.

Good rich colour and very clean example of a very practical and stylish writing table.

C19th ormolu-mounted burr-walnut 2-drawer writing/centre table. Superior quality English-made walnut library table of French Louis XVI style and taste. Of free-standing form fitted 2 frieze drawers, with 'dummy' drawers to reverse and conforming end friezes .

Ormolu mounts to all central friezes , ormolu waist beading and ormolu lock escutcheons. Raised on line-inlaid square section tapering legs , terminating with ormolu bead trim to a brass and porcelain castor. The cross-banded and inlaid top with "book-matched" tightly-figured burr walnut quarter-veneered central panel , with geometric design box-wood line-inlay .Cross-grain 'thumb-moulded' edge.

With original single key operating both lockable mahogany-lined drawers, fitted with quality stamped English locks.
Mint clean , original condition , cleaned and waxed in our workshops, ready to use.

Excellent quality well-chosen veneers , good original colour and patina. Useful scale table which could be utilised in any number of situations and functions.

Neat mahogany Sheraton revival style writing table with satinwood cross-banding and string inlay . The frieze fitted with 2 drawers retaining original cast gilt brass handles . The writing surface with the original tooled green leather inset , though worn . Raised on square tapering legs fitted with brass castors .

The rear with fitted inkwell and pen drawers to either side with fiddle-back mahogany veneered concave lidded stationery compartments with galleried backs and inlaid flame-veneered ovals , in the manner of a "Carlton House" style desk .

Original throughout , wear to leather and some fading to polish .

C19th Regency period mahogany 'metamorphic' writing table. Rare form of mahogany centre/writing or library table with folding hinged top concealing writing compartment. The interior fitted with an adjustable folding ratcheted writing/reading slope, lidded compartments and a moving candle-stand/slide. A hidden gilded-brass catch on the base of the top releases the folding-top mechanism , whilst the lock and key secure it. Inlaid all over with ebony stringing and inlay ,of free-standing design, standing on 'standard-end' supports with shaped sabre legs, joined by a high turned stretcher and shaped bracket supports. Fitted with brass square box-toe castors. All in original untouched /'fresh to the market' condition. H 30" x W 36" x D 23" . England c.1810

Late George III period mahogany pedestal desk.Lovely colour and nice grade of timber together with a wonderful quality replaced distressed green hide leather top with subtle gold tooled Greek-key pattern with lines and 'blind ' tooling (probably about 10 years old ). Old replaced brass knob handles . Some small old minor veneer repairs to plinth , but overall excellent condition . Good practical and visual proportions . H 30" W 54" D 33" (Kneehole H 24" x W 24" )Key for centre drawer.

Early C19th Regency period mahogany writing / library table of wide ,exaggerated 'kidney' form. Unusual free-standing mahogany and leather-lined writing table of dramatic scale kidney design with partially ebonised/bronzed shaped concave stretcher with central tablet feature .Fitted with its original "Greek Key" 'blind'-tooled Moroccan leather top , which though worn heavily in places, has been conserved and preserved, and shows a nice mellow red hue. Standing on inverted or 'umbrella' shaped supports fitted with original box castors and wheels, the end supports of plain 'standard' form. The cross-banded top with a reeded edge , and conforming reeded detail to legs and frame . The shallow frieze with no drawers. An exceptionally rare form of table with great elegance and presence.

Original finish and condition with minor historic repairs to the legs and stabilised crack to the writing surface.

Has been sympathetically restored ,waxed and conserved in our workshops, and is in ready-to-use , "Country-house" condition.

Early C19th George IV period mahogany 2 drawer writing/library table in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster. Of free-standing form with shallowly panelled friezes to all sides and asymmetrical /concealed drawer fronts. The drawers fitted with brass escutcheons and working brass locks (with key) , having never been fitted with knobs or handles. Raised on tapering reeded legs to a turned foot into original patinated brass socket castors .
The rounded-corner top with a 'thumb-mould' edge. Fitted with an old replacement green leather inset writing surface which has rubbed gold and 'blind-tooled' decoration.
The drawers with fine hand-cut dove-tails ,mahogany linings and quarter dust-beads.

High-quality timber and fittings which both allude ,together with the overall design , to the celebrated cabinet-makers Gillows of Lancaster.

Excellent ready-to-use condition , with good original rich patination and colour.
Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

Late C19th French ormolu-mounted and brass inlaid ebonised' bureau-plat '/ writing tale . Napoleon III period free-standing table with good quality ormolu mounts, brass stringing and leather inset top with highly decorative brass-inlaid corners. Heavily-cast ormolu rim to the serpentine outline top with well-cast 'clasp' corners. The frieze fitted with 2 mahogany lined drawers with rococo ormolu handles and 'dummy' drawers to the reverse side .Standing on shaped cabriole legs with full-length ormolu mounts terminating in sabots to the feet. Free-standing, all-round decoration, with Bacchic mask to centre of friezes. Very clean, bright ormolu which forms a striking contrast to the ebonised body. H 29" x W 43 " x 26". France c. 1870
