Late C19th /early C20th Edwardian period inlaid rosewood desk.
High quality rosewood kneehole desk with profuse neo-classical style inlaid satinwood and boxwood decoration. Each pedestal fitted three drawers above an open shelved lower section with decorative fret-work panel galleries . The whole raised on square section tapering legs fitted with gilt brass cup castors .
The top retains its original ‘blind tooled’ and gilt bordered green Moroccan leather inset writing surface . The rear of the desk with a raised superstructure fitted with a drawer to each side and a central recess . The top surmounted by a three-quarter cast and pierced gilt -brass gallery.
All drawers retaining their original decorative gilt brass knob pulls and fitted with brass locks and original working key. The central frieze drawer stamped to the top by the manufacturer “Edward & Roberts”.
A decorative and practical scale desk with a mellow lightly-faded colour and patina.
*The firm of Edwards and Roberts established in 1854 based in Wardour St., London were leading manufacturers of quality furniture .
