Late C18th George III period mahogany office or estate cabinet with original gilded lettering.
The figured mahogany panelled two-door top-section enclosing an arrangement of drawers , adjustable shelves , divider compartments and pigeon-holes. The bank of drawers with original scripted gilt-lettering and fitted with lacquered brass inset handles. The doors polished on the inside, fitted with original gilt-brass hinges, brass and steel bolts , lock and key, with a central reeded brass strip .
The five long-drawer chest base section, painted with original gilt- letter indices . The drawer fronts fitted with turned mahogany knob-pulls . The mahogany-lined and cock-beaded edge drawers all fitted inside with sectional dividers , the whole raised on bracket feet. The flat top with a cross-banded edge and skirting-board overhang to rear .
Surmounted by an elegant stepped and moulded cornice .
In excellent original condition with a rich colour and patina.
A Georgian period cabinet of rare form and design, by repute having been removed from the offices of Lloyds Insurance Company, Cornhill , London. Acquired by the previous owners during the 1950’s .
