Description

Late C19th/ early C20th Chinese Qing Dynasty carved hardwood rectangular side or altar table .
Superb quality carved hardwood side , console or altar type table , with a highly-figured burr elm panel top and burr elm panels to legs and ends . Carved and pierced friezes to both sides , the whole being of symmetrical free-standing design.
The overhanging squared ‘scroll’ ends with high quality carved lingzhi mushroom motif detail. Lingzhi has been regarded as a symbol of good luck , wealth , beauty and longevity since ancient times , it is also known as “ Fairy grass” and “ Seicho” .
The base of the legs carved with a ruyi style motif , a symbol of prosperity in Chinese culture.
A highly decorative and practical table of outstanding design and quality.
In excellent original condition with a rich colour and patina.
