Fine early C19th George IV period mahogany breakfront library bookcase.
Capacious four-door figured mahogany library bookcase with moulded profile bar-glazed cabinet upper section fitted with original mahogany shelves on adjustable ‘ladder-racking’ . Fitted all original glass to each of the 18 pane doors with exceptional ‘movement’ and atmospheric ‘faults’ .
The four-door cupboard base having panelled doors with inset moulded edges and shaped ‘cusped’ corners .The two door centre section enclosing 2 further original adjustable shelves. The two end cupboard doors each enclosing a bank of four graduated polished mahogany drawers with inset flush brass handles.
The detachable moulded cornice of restrained design with a banded frieze . The whole raised on a plinth base . Original panelled back .
The doors to the centre of the upper and lower sections of the bookcase fitted with a brass dividing strip . Fitted with original doors bolts , all doors fitted with working locks and keys (some old replacements).
In excellent original condition, with a rich colour and patina to the figured mahogany.
Minor historic marks to flat surface of the stepped waist section commensurate with age ,use and purpose.
Has been sympathetically cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
