Two early C19th George IV period ‘en suite’ rosewood box ‘desk-tidys’ attributed to Gillows of Lancaster.
Fine quality duo of rosewood desk-top boxes each with twin hinged folding lids , turned carrying handles and fitted a drawer. The revealed interiors fitted with pen-trays and dished scoops for stationary accessories.
The largest box with a brass-mounted turned carrying handle and a single full length end frieze drawer with a turned knob pull handle . The smaller with a similar bobbin-turned handle , lateral frieze drawer with a brass ‘axe-head’ pull handle and decorated with turned bobbin-style ‘split-reel mouldings’ to the edges of top and base.
The quality, grade of timber and designs attributable to the renowned cabinet-making firm of Gillows of Lancaster and London .
Both boxes in excellent original condition with rich colour and patina to the figured rosewood.
