Description

Fine quality early C19th English Empire-style mahogany side cabinet attributed to S.Jamar , London.

Decorative and practical flame-veneered and brass-mounted 2-door side cabinet, fitted with a frieze drawer . The arch-panel doors enclosing a single adjustable tray slide above 2 interior drawers fitted with brass ring handles .
Finely-cast and chased brass mounts and capitals to the Empire-style column sides below panelled tablets , the ‘cock-beaded’ edge frieze drawer fitted with original chased brass circular knob pulls . Brass strip to the centre of the doors and brass escutcheons, fitted with a working lock and key .
Raised on short , carved sabre fore-legs .
Attributed to the cabinet-making workshops of S.Jamar , Soho , London . Recognised for his French Empire influenced style of furniture , having been perhaps trained on the Continent. By 1819 he was established in Wardour Street , describing his work ‘as equal to any made in Paris’ .
In excellent original condition with a rich colour and patina.
A stylish and practical side cabinet of good proportions and scale.
