Early C19th Regency period gilt-wood frame convex plate mirror of Grecian revival design.
Circular gilt-framed convex mirror with Greek classical motif decoration of anthemion or ‘honeysuckle’ design to the quartered border . The central convex mirror-plate with a reeded and ebonised slip surround.
The original silver-grey mercury mirror plate having achieved a wonderful atmospheric degraded ‘shot’ patina and finish . The original gilding and decoration in excellent original condition.
The fashionable Greek-revival style of the early C19th Regency period was popularised by the classically-influenced designs of architects and designers such as Thomas Hope and Alexander “Greek” Thomson .
