Large rectangular Dutch colonial coffer or chest of bold scale , bound with decorative gilded brass strap-work . Each end fitted with an impressive gilt-bronze carrying-handle with a decorative shaped back-plate .
The interior fitted to one end with a hinge lidded candle or perhaps lavender box to protect contents of the chest from insects. Fitted with the original lock , though non-functioning as the lugs of the hasp have previously been cut to allow access. (No key)

Has achieved an excellent colour and patina with historic and atmospheric wear commensurate with age, use and purpose.
An exotic and practical chest with huge decorative appeal and history , ideal for use as storage on a landing or in a hallway.
