Fine late C18th George III Sheraton period mahogany serpentine front sideboard of compact proportions.
Raised on 6 elegant finely-drawn square tapering legs terminating with elongated spade type feet . Fitted with 3 oak-lined drawers , comprising a deep drawer to each end and a long centre drawer, all with satinwood crossbanding and retaining their original patinated brass ring handles . The end drawers with satinwood crossbanded oval panels , with cross-banding and boxwood string inlay . The bowed centre with a shaped frieze above the ‘kneehole’ .The legs all with corresponding boxwood string inlay .
The serpentine outline top with a boxwood strung edge , broad satinwood crossbanding decorated with trailing floral penwork decoration. The single piece figured mahogany top with minor historic water-marks but crucially retaining the original polished surface which has achieved an excellent mellow colour.
The rear of the sideboard fitted with a decorative patinated brass rail three-quarter gallery upstand with classical urn finials and scroll-work side returns .
The whole in excellent original ‘as found ‘ condition with a consistent pleasing colour and patina.
A classic late C18th mahogany sideboard of practical and compact scale and proportions.
