Fine quality early C19th Regency period rosewood and gilt brass-mounted chiffonier.
Figured rosewood 2-door side cabinet or chiffonier with raised shelf back . The doors fitted with elliptical interwoven brass grilles against figured rosewood panels . The edges of the door panels with decorative and well-cast gilded brass mouldings of lappet or ‘lambs-tongue’ design.
The shaped stile uprights with a gilt-brass acanthus leaf mount to the ‘shoulders’ . The panel reserves to the stiles below with patinated gilt-brass moulding and conforming gilded brass moulding to the base . Raised on the original turned feet with simulated faux rosewood graining and gilt-brass ring mounts .
The shelved back raised on turned gilded brass architectural column supports, and the back edge of the shelf with a pierced ‘gothic’ arch or lancet design gilt-brass three-quarter gallery. The back-board upstand support inset with a rectangular panel .
The doors enclosing a single rosewood veneer faced edge shelf on adjustable ‘ladder-rack’ slots . The interior reverse face of the doors decorated in faux rosewood grained decoration .
In excellent original condition throughout with a rich colour and patina. Minor historic scratches to top commensurate with age , use and purpose.
A fine cabinet of ‘High Regency’ period and design with great presence and combining the use of selected rosewood and gilded brass to provide great visual impact .
