Description

Early C19th Regency period brass-inlaid and brass-mounted mahogany drop-leaf sofa table .
Stylish mahogany sofa table on scrolled end supports with double turned and carved wrythen uprights. Inlaid with broad brass-line stringing or banding, and with gilt-brass beading on the edges , the ends with brass rosette mounts .
The table ends joined by 2 elegant brass-line inlaid ‘hoop’ stretchers , providing strength and stability in addition to their decorative and stylish appeal .
The scrolling legs terminating with original brass castors. Of free-standing form , the frieze fitted with 2 drawers , the reverse with corresponding ‘dummy’ drawer fronts. The drawers all fitted with sympathetic old replacement cast-brass knob pull handles .
The drawers lined in ash which almost certainly points to the table having been made in Scotland, the sophisticated design probably of Edinburgh manufacture . High quality cabinet-making throughout, the drawer linings with superbly-executed dove-tail joints .
In excellent original condition, with a consistent mellow faded patina . All brass inlay present with no damage, losses or repairs.
