                                                                            Fine quality late C19th French gilt-brass ‘Grande Sonnerie’ carriage clock with interesting provenance.
Gilded brass 4-glass cased carriage clock with corinthian capital reeded columns to the corners , raised on ogee section feet  . 
Fitted with a ‘Grande Sonnerie’ movement with quarter chiming repeat and alarm functions or complications.  The circular dial with decorative cast-brass centre ,  Arabic numerals within circular apertures and blued steel hands . Small sub-dial alarm indicator below . 
The polished brass back-plate engraved with ‘French Make’ import marks and ‘E.M & Co.’ retailers mark .  The winding and adjustment stems marked for Alarm and Hands setting .  Twin striking hammers onto blued-steel coiled gongs . The repeat button to top of case , and a ‘Strike/Silent’ lever to the base .
Classically-inspired shaped carrying handle to the top . The top fitted with a gilded brass plate onto the centre of which has been skilfully painted a coloured enamel armorial device or family crest of a rampant lion with a sword and the Latin motto “Deus Juvat” ( God Assists ). The crest being that of the McDuff family . 
Supplied with the original , though worn , Morocco leather travelling / carrying case and double-ended key .
A French ‘Grande Sonnerie’ gilt-brass carriage clock with a near identical dial by Breguet was sold by Christie’s , London 04/ 09 / 2012 .
In excellent condition. Will be serviced and presented in full working order prior to delivery.
