Description
Mid C19th Chinese Chippendale revival style mahogany glazed china display cabinet on stand .
Nineteenth century copy of an important mid C18th Chippendale period display cabinet in the fashionable Chinese taste . Open centre with a dividing mid-height shelf and pierced ‘Chinoiserie’ motif gallery surrounds , flanked by elaborately glazed panel doors with astragal moulded bars . The glazed cabinets fitted with display shelves each with ‘scooped’ detail rests to display plates and dishes . The end panels with corresponding patterned glazing .
The cornice with a moulded profile edge above a dentil carved border . The top being boarded and flat , which would provide further scope for display.
The cabinet top raised on a separate stand fitted with an elaborate fretted open-work Chinese trellis or ‘cock-pen’ frieze . Raised on square section legs with inside chamfered edges , the corners fitted with angular Chinese-inspired spandrel brackets.
In good original countryhouse fresh-to-market dry condition. Has a good surface and patina , almost indistinguishable from a mid C18th period original in the manner of Thomas Chippendale or John Linnell .
Excellent grade of Cuban mahogany which has achieved a pleasing mellow colour .
A rare design of English cabinet, perfect for the display of Chinese porcelain.
