Description

Late C19th Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) bronze ‘Koro’ or incense-burner .
Impressively-scaled cast bronze Japanese censer raised on tripod supports onto a circular base . The removable lid surmounted by a well-cast mythical beast guardian ‘lion-dog‘ , a ‘pearl’ or ball clasped in it’s jaws.
The body of waisted globular-shaped form applied with angular-topped dragon’s head handles to the sides , the body with cast incised geometric details and circular detailed reserves or ‘mons’ , with coiled dragons and lotus-leaf details.
The tops of the tripod supports cast with zoomorphic mask details and shaped feet onto the shaped hexagonal platform . The stepped circular base with cast wave or perhaps cloud motif detail .
Good dark original patina, some minor loss to patination around extreme base of foot-ring .
