Description

Mid C19th early Victorian period carved walnut centre or library table of free-standing form .
Elegant high-quality rectangular walnut centre table with unusual carved pillar ends raised on scroll carved cabriole legs with original ‘concealed’ brass castors beneath the carved scrolled feet. The vase-shaped pillars with facetted bodies and applied open-work decorative supports above a carved block with cartouche details .
The shaped figured walnut shallow frieze with rococo style ‘C’ scroll carved detail and corners , the depth allowing for ample seating and leg-room and with the absence of a joining central stretcher to accommodate a chair or for foot-space .
The top with a simple ‘thumb-moulded’ edge to the ‘quarter-veneered’ and ‘book-matched’ burr and figured walnut rectangular panel .
In excellent original condition, the top having achieved a mellow , faded honey-coloured patina and with the original surface and polish .
