Fine late C19th French porcelain Imari pattern 5-piece ‘garniture de cheminee’ by Samson , Paris .
In the late C17th / early C18th Japanese Genroku period (1688-1704) Arita style , comprising 3 bulbous vases each with dome covers and ‘Shishi’ guardian lion-dog finials ,together with a pair of en-suite ‘beaker’ or sleeve vases of flared form . Richly decorated in the colours of the Imari palette , with vivid cobalt blue , iron-red , gold and white decoration.
The vases all with free-flowing panels of chrysanthemum and peony floral decoration interspersed with cartouches of mythical beasts and exotic birds .
The firm of Samson. Edme et Cie was in founded in Paris in 1845 and the firm produced high quality copies of rare Japanese , Chinese and European ceramics to supply the demands of the considerable collectors market for fine china during this period .
Highly decorative and impressive garniture of vases with fine quality painting and decoration . In excellent condition with only a minor chip to the rim of one covered vase, and a small hairline crack to one sleeve vase .
