C19th Chinese hardwood circular occasional table with ivory and boxwood inlay .
High-quality decorative Chinese table with extensive carved ivory and boxwood inlay. The top inlaid with skilfully-executed ivory and boxwood designs , the central panel featuring warrior and equestrian figures , pagodas in a stylised landscape and symbolic motifs .Two further broad concentric bands of boxwood and ivory inlay featuring further designs including flowers, foliage and insects or bats .
The edge of the table inlaid with further raised carved ivory decoration above an open-work frieze with a turned spindle gallery and painted green contrasting background . The top supported on a central column with three triangular heavily carved panels featuring naturalistic leaf and organic designs.
Raised on a circular base with corresponding inlaid decoration and shaped integral feet .
In excellent original condition with no losses . Minor historic shrinkage crack to central panel of the top .
Good rich colour and patina with contrasting mellow boxwood inlay and striking ivory-inlaid highlights.
(*Interestingly the table has a pegged construction technique which means it can easily be disassembled if required, presumably for ease of carriage and transportation)
