Late C19th/early C20th Sino-Tibetan cast bronze figure of Tara .
Verdigris bronze figure of Tara seated in lalitasana on a double-lotus base. The goddess is adorned with a five-leaf crown and necklaces around chest and waist. The downcast face is depicted with a tranquil and serene expression.
Good detailed casting with a green verdigris patination .
In Hinduism and Buddhism , the goddess Tara or Arya Tara , is the second of the Dasa Mahavidyas or “Great Wisdom goddesses “ . Known as the “mother of liberation “ , she represents the virtues of success in work and achievements . Tara is also a meditation goddess , worshipped to develop certain inner qualities and understand compassion and loving.
Purchased privately from a local family who bought the statue in China in the 1920’s .
