Description

Late C19th Chinese Qing Dynasty carved hardwood low Kang or ‘opium’ table.
Chinese scroll-end ‘huali’ low table with superbly-executed pierced and carved friezes depicting opposing long-tailed dragons chasing ‘the flaming pearl of wisdom’ . The solid scrolled-over ends carved in relief with stylised auspicious bat motifs , the scrolled feet with carved details.
The table of free-standing form with all-round decoration, to sit in the centre of a room .
The inset ‘floating’ panel top with a gently bevelled or ‘fielded’ edge .
In excellent original condition with no damage, breaks or repairs. The whole table having achieved a consistent rich, mellow patination to the heavy-quality figured timber.
Has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
