Fine pair of mid C19th Japanese Imari pattern porcelain lidded vases of unusual shape and form . Elegantly-shaped pair of vases decorated in the vivid colours of the Imari palette , with dome covers surmounted by gilded Shishi or Foo guardian dogs . Strong cobalt blue , iron red and gilt matching decoration to both vases .
The bright decoration of typical Imari design with panels of fenced landscapes with pavilions and deer , and cartouche reserves of floral design . The slender cylindrical bodies swelling to the lower bases , having ingenious heavily-potted lower sections to provide stability.
Highly-decorative pair of Japanese vases in good original condition. Minor historic chips to underside of lids and minor chips to the gilded dog finials .
