The black and white engraving by J. Richardson-Jackson after the original portrait by George Sanders . Admiral Sir Charles Rowley Baronet ( 1770-1845) shown in full dress Naval uniform holding a telescope.
The engraving lain onto a linen backing and stretcher , set in it's original glazed 'brown oak' rectangular frame , the inner slip of boldly-carved 'lamb's tongue' profile . The top of the frame fitted with a brass hanging ring .
Highly decorative Naval portrait study of documentary interest mounted in its original stylish period frame .
Sir Charles Rowley, 1st Baronet , Admiral Sir Charles Rowley GCB , GCH , was a Royal Navy officer who joined the Royal Navy in 1785 , his commands included HMS Lynx , Cleopatra, Hussar and Unite . In 1800 he took over HMS Prince George and HMS Ruby in 1804 . In 1805 he was commanding HMS Eagle , he later took the vessel on the Walcheren Campaign in 1809 and helped capture Fiume and Trieste . After being appointed Commander-in-Chief , The Nore in 1815 , Commander-in-Chief , Jamaica Station in 1820 and Third Naval Lord in 1834 . Created a Baronet in 1836 , Commader-in-Chief , Portsmouth in 1842.
His awards included Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath and Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Guelphic Order .
He lived at Hill House (now Cranbourne Court) at Winkfield , Berkshire.
