Description

Imposing late C19th/ early C20th Edwardian period brass Corinthian-capped fluted-column standard lamp.
Adjustable-height telescopic brass standard lamp of impressive and imposing scale . The classical Empire-style tapering fluted column upon a multi-step plinth base and laurel wreath mounted block . The fluted column surmounted with an intricately cast Corinthian cap with well-defined acanthus scrolls and cauliculi, enclosing an adjustable height mechanism and lever for the adjusting the telescopic light-holder.
Well-cast detail throughout and weighted base to provide stability.
Has been sympathetically cleaned and polished whilst retaining a mellow , aged patina . Fully re-wired using traditional-style cotton-covered twist flex and fitted with a new brass bulb holder and switch , ready to use .
A truly impressive over-sized lamp of dramatic proportions. Probably made by Hinks or Messengers, the pre-eminent Birmingham makers of quality brass lamps during this period.
