Description

Early C19th Regency period mahogany 'break-front' library bookcase.
Elegant Regency period mahogany library bookcase of restrained design and compact proportions fitted with original decorative brass diamond-lattice brass grille doors . The uprights or stiles with panelled reserves of figured 'fiddle-back' mahogany. The raised top centre-section flanked by lower-height wing sections of breakfront outline .
The top sections each with a simple moulded cornice and corresponding waist mould , the whole raised on a plinth base. All doors fitted with original brass knob pulls , brass interior door bolts and locks , supplied with original key . The centre section fitted with reeded gilt-brass dividers or 'slamming strips ' to the upper and lower pairs of doors.
Fitted with all original removable shelves , each with a moulded front edge .
The reverse constructed with original chamfered edge 'fielded' panel backboards .
In good original condition with a consistent rich colour and patination . Minor losses to brass 'buttons' of the brass grilles .
Built in the traditional manner comprising 4 sections for ease of movement and transportation .
