Fine quality late C19th/early C20th mahogany bookcase in the Sheraton revival style.
Oval panelled 2-door base cupboard with 'lancet' pattern bar-glazed 2-door bookcase cabinet top . Cross-banded throughout with satinwood banding and inlaid with box-wood stringing. The cornice with carved 'tear-drop' detail and moulded profile pediment.
The 2-door cupboard base having oval panels with broad satinwood cross-banded surrounds .
The cabinet top with finely-moulded glazing bars enclosing 3 height adjustable shelves with moulded front edges , together with 'ladder-racking' sides , the base fitted with a single adjustable shelf.
The base section fitted with 2 oak-lined short drawers with ovoid inlay to the frieze each fitted with a period-style 'rococo' design brass handle . The doors all fitted with their original brass escutcheons , interior door bolts and locks, and supplied with a working key .
Raised on a plinth base.
The reverse with fielded panel back-boards.
The cabinet doors fitted with hand-blown glass of C18th style with good 'movement' and colour .
Well-selected grade of timber which has impressive depth and figuring , the top of the base featuring a 'fiddle-back' cut of mahogany .
The whole constructed in the traditional method and style in two sections for ease of movement and transportation.
In the Edwardian period revival manner of the eminent late C18th cabinet-maker and designer Thomas Sheraton , renowned for his sophisticated and elegant style.
In excellent original condition with a good rich colour and patina.
A neatly-scaled and elegant Georgian period style bookcase of practical proportions and fine craftsmanship . Though unsigned , the bookcase bears the hallmark quality of a top London manufacturer such as Edwards & Roberts.
