Description

Smart decorative set of 6 C19th gilt-framed coloured engravings of exotic birds .
Beautifully coloured set of engravings in the manner and style of the esteemed and highly collectible mid C18th English watercolour artist Isaac Spackman who specialised in watercolour studies of exotic birds such as these , probably derived from George Edwards's "Natural History of Uncommon Birds" published in 1748.
Similar types of fashionable watercolours and gouache bird studies were also produced in the late C18th/early C19th by the Chinese for the European export market.
Each study showing multiple species in flight and perched in a naturalistic landscape.
The colours retaining their original brightness and definition, showing no signs of deterioration or fading . Each engraving well set in a complementary subtle pale green/ blue coloured mount .
The later moulded profile gilt-wood frames with an 'antiqued' finish and patina.
The versos bearing retail trade labels for the antique map and print dealers "Baynton-Williams, 70 Old Brompton Road , London S.W 7 ".
