Interesting and decorative late C19th/early C20th Chinese export hardwood music stool or seat , of Western influenced design.
Smart 'huali' double-ended seat or stool with strong Western design influenced shape and lyre-shaped splats . Though showing Western form , the stool has characteristic Chinese vine and grape carving to the frame and similar typical Chinese style carving incorporated into the carved twin lyre-form splats .
Well-figured panelled seat , the whole raised on square-section tapering legs with a Chinese design foot . The edges of the shaped uprights with trailing carving. The tops of the raised ends united with turned Western-style bars resonant of early C19th English chair backs .
A stylish and decorative stool obviously made for export to Europe and the West , which interprets European design whilst manufactured in Chinese format , construction and materials, and combines inspiration from both the design cultures of East and West .
