Description

Highly decorative mid C19th Mason's Ironstone china part dinner service.
Chinese-inspired blue , white and gilt pattern part dinner service by Mason in imitation of Chinese landscape 'Willow Pattern' Nanking porcelain. Richly decorated and exuberantly designed part service of 26 pieces.
Established by Miles Mason in 1796 , the esteemed firm of Masons produced large quantities of fine earthenware from the late C18th, before beginning to produce their patented Ironstone China ware from 1807. The firm and it's wares became one of the most important names in the English ceramics industry during the nineteenth century.
The shapely hexagonal bodied tureens with gilded peony-bud knop handles to the exaggerated height pagoda-style lids , and gilded grotesque mask handles to the sides of the bodies.
All pieces stamped with the impressed mark " MASONS PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA ".

x 8 plates 9.5" diameter.
x 2 platters ( 14" and 18")
x 1 meat drainer
x 1 large tureen with lid on stand (3 pieces) 12" x 12" (historic crack to lid)
x 2 small tureens with lids on stands 3 pieces) 8" x 8"
x 1 tureen 12" x 7" with lid (lid with historic repair)
Minor chips to edges and wear to gilding commensurate with age and use .
