Description

Fine quality early C19th George IV period rosewood and satinwood sewing or work table of unusual form .
Circular lidded rosewood and satinwood table raised on a leaf-carved scroll-footed tri-form shaped platform base . The well-carved column supporting a tapering cylindrical or 'drum' shaped body . The 'drum' body constructed in sectional form with alternating sections of rosewood and satinwood . The rosewood cross-banded satinwood lid with a moulded edge , fitted with its original lock and key , opening to reveal divided mahogany sections around the circumference for cotton reels and sewing accessories. The centre with a lift-out mahogany lid covering the large central velvet-lined compartment below .
The upper frieze part of the circular body decorated with applied carved circular bosses or paterae . The edges of the vase with carved 'split-reel' moulding .
A smart free-standing sewing table of striking design and quality.
In excellent original condition. Good rich original surface and patina.
