Description

Late C18th George III period mahogany linen press/ wardrobe attributed to Gillows of Lancaster.
Fine quality mahogany 2-part linen press wardrobe with hanging space over a 2-short and 2 long drawer base . Top grade of chosen mahogany with a good original colour and patination.
Raised on typical Gillows style "French" bracket feet to front and rear. Fitted old replacement brass oval back-plate handles with thistle-style decoration original locks , key and fittings . The well-figured panel doors with a central patinated brass reeded strip.
The cornice with dentil detail below an ogee -section moulding.
The backs of each section each with a quality 3-panel fielded-panel construction and 'pink-wash' period finish.
The choice of timber , style of feet , construction of blocks beneath feet , panelled back and overall quality attribute the press to the esteemed cabinet-makers , Gillows of Lancaster and London.
The original trays have been removed and a brass hanging garment-rail fitted.
In excellent original condition with a good original consistent patination and colour . Minor historic marks to one side of upper section where hooks have perhaps been fitted.
