Mid C19th oil-on-canvas portrait painting of a gentleman or 'dandy' .
Strikingly depicted gaze of a handsome aristocratic-looking dandy gentleman or 'buck' , wearing a high-collared frock coat and cravat painted in oil on canvas. The unframed picture painted on a canvas labelled to reverse "Prepared by Winsor & Newton London " , the artists' suppliers established in London in 1832.
In excellent original condition with no tears or repairs .
Unsigned , probably painted by a journeyman artist employed to paint portraits of the English middle classes during his period.
Wonderfully evocative and decorative period painting . A characterful 'instant ancestor' portrait in the genre of perhaps Poldark or Mr Darcy .
