Mid C19th English 'tole peinte' japanned fire-side coal-box or purdonium.
Stepped dome-top tole-ware casket or bin , with gilt line and gilt trailing-leaf decoration and with gilded rococo-style scroll feet and handles .
Probably produced in Birmingham , Wolverhampton or Pontypool , all important centres for the production of decorated 'japanned' tin wares of this type during the nineteenth century.
In good original condition with no damage or holes . The colour, gilt painting and finish all totally original with no refreshed decoration.
Useful and decorative storage for coal , logs or magazines.
