Description

Mid C19th cast-iron stick-stand depicting the young Hercules .
Highly decorative cast-iron stick or umbrella stand retaining 90% of its original polychrome paint finish . The infant Hercules is depicted wrestling a serpent or snake , which is coiled around him and forms the hoop for the sticks or umbrellas. The lift out drip-tray is modelled as grassy undergrowth , whilst the infant figure has foliage behind .
In good original condition , minor chip to edge of drip-tray and the snake's head possibly an old replacement.
