Description

C19th Chinese Qing Dynasty cast bronze 'dragon' censer , or incense burner and cover on original carved hardwood stand .
Of archaic form , the compressed globular body well-cast with aquatic creatures against rolling waves , the sides set with a pair of upright chilong -form handles . Supported on shaped cabriole tripod legs with monster masks and paw feet. The pierced and reticulated cover formed as a large coiled dragon amid clouds or waves , the head forming the knop.
The bronze censer mounted on it's original intricately carved and pierced lobed circular hardwood presentation stand .
The base of the censer with an impressed 6-character seal-type mark , possibly apocryphal Xuande period Ming Dynasty.
In excellent original condition, minor rubbing to the highlights of the body . Minor dent to one edge of cover .
