Description

Large late C19th/ early C20th colour print after Rembrandt "The Sampling Officials".
Copy of one Rembrandt's most celebrated works , also referred to as "The Syndics of the Drapers' Guild" , the original oil painting (completed in 1662) is a group portrait of the syndicate of the Amsterdam Drapers Guild whose job was to evaluate the quality of fabric offered by weavers to the guild members. The exception is the man wearing calotte in the back who is a servant. Here the gathered members are shown examining cloth .
The original painting was commissioned by the Guild for their Guild Hall that housed it until the early 1770s. The Sampling Officials is among the greatest treasures of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
In good clean condition, set behind it's original glass and shown in its original ebonised wooden frame. No fading .
Has facsimile signature and date top right hand side.
Probably produced by "The Medici Society" , fine art printers , London.
