Description
Early C19th late George III period carved gilt-wood 3-plate 'landscape' over-mantel mirror.
Well-carved and detailed gilt-wood framed mirror , which has been professionally and sympathetically restored and re-gilded approximately 10 years ago ,at what would have been very considerable cost, resulting in a spectacular brightly-burnished landscape-type mirror in first-class condition.
Skilful attention to detail and first-class quality gilding technique have produced an excellent restored mirror.
The plates divided by finely-scaled architectural fluted columns with carved leaf-wrapped Corinthian capital details and 'split-pearl' carving . The frieze with attractive gridded lattice-and-star decoration.. The central rectangular tablet of the frieze with a well-defined carved gilt-wood conch-shell with carved reeds or foliage fronds, to each side. Well-spaced spheres adorn the top below a shaped inverted break-front cornice . Each end fitted with a gilded ball foot to sit upon a chimney-piece or overmantel.
Original centre mirror plate with some atmospheric foxing , the side plates very clear and possibly late C19th replacements.
Overall presented in excellent condition .
