Pair of early C20th Dutch East Indies Colonial-style teak armchairs of early C19th design.
Well-proportioned pair of rattan-seated teak veranda armchairs with reeded front legs and scroll arms . Shaped top rail and centre splat with carved flower-head detail .
Armchairs of this design were popular throughout India and the East Indies during the early and mid-C19th , known in the Dutch East Indies as 'Rafflesstoelen' (Raffles chairs) , after Sir Stamford Raffles, Govenor of Java and founder of Singapore.
Traditional pegged construction , sound sturdy frames.
Good pale , dry colour , with minor damage to rattan/cane seats .
