Late C19th Italian bronze 'Grand Tour' souvenir reduction ,after the antique, of "The Dying Gaul".
Detailed bronze casting of the iconic antique marble statue of the defeated and wounded Gaul.
The marble Roman version now exhibited in The Capitoline Museum , Rome , Italy.
The Hellenistic bronze original thought to have been executed in the 3rd century BC , the marble Roman copy having been rediscovered in the C17th whilst excavations were made at the Villa Ludovisi in Rome.
Depicted naked wearing his neck torc , lain upon his discarded martial equipment , shield and broken sword.
Good dark patination with hints of green and verdigris ,in the antique aged manner.
Fig leaf has been removed previously .
