Description

Late C19th four-fold Chinoiserie polychrome and gilt decorated embossed leather draught-screen / room-divider.
Highly decorative four panel screen with scarlet red background decorated with gilt and black Chinoiserie vignettes in imitation of oriental lacquer-work . Featuring typical fantastical 'Chinese-style' decoration subjects of mountainous landscapes with trees ,pagodas , bridges, figures , boats and birds.
Has a sympathetically aged patination with only minor historic repairs , with no punctures or tears .
The borders with studded and banded leather edges.
Four hinged and folding panels mounted on a reverse frame-work with plain black decoration .
Would be equally well-suited to being wall-mounted in a flat profile to form a large decorative single-panel picture.
