Description

Late C19th neo-classical design cut-glass and gilt-brass table centre-piece. Removable oval cut-glass dish with deep-cut Waterford-style decoration and 'serrated' edge. Mounted in a neo-classical design gilt-brass stand ( previously silver-plated) with rams/goats-head mounts to the corners joined by swagged chains. Ovolo 'egg-and-dart' rim border with beaded edge. Raised on stylised scroll legs and feet. The base with platform surmounted by a central realistically modelled pineapple.
Throughout the C18th and C19th the pineapple was considered the symbol of high hospitality due to its rarity , exotic nature and cost . Hence its relevance to guests and hospitality and use in entertaining.
Glass in perfect condition , no chips .
Smart centre-piece or fruit-dish ,for a dining table or sideboard .
