Description

Early C19th George IV period mahogany serving/console table. Boldly proportioned mahogany serving table fitted with 3 frieze drawers, raised on tapering reeded supports of unusual form with turned top-sections and rounded terminal feet. Wonderful rich patina throughout , with well-figured single-piece top above a heavily-moulded edge. All panelled friezes with shaped moulded detail .
The style of the table taking its inspiration from Classical Greek and Roman antiquity and architecture, the 'slab' design top alluding to a marble equivalent. A fashionable genre of design popularised by the classically-inspired drawings from the leading exponents of the period such as Thomas Hope ,Charles Heathcote-Tatham and Henry Holland.
Excellent original colour and condition . Completely flat with no splits, damage or restoration ,and of strong, robust construction.
The drawers fitted with quality old replacement oval ring-handles with decorative back-plates.
Cleaned and waxed.
