Description

Early C19th Regency period papier-mâché tray with gilt 'Chinoiserie' decoration . Of canted-corner /'lozenge'-shape form , good-scale tray with exotic Chinese-type gilt decoration with figures, chrysanthemums and foliage ,to the raised borders and edges. Minor chips to edges , some crazing to the surface and rubbing to gilt commensurate with age and use. Very decorative tray of useful size , which could be used on a base as a coffee/occasional table .From its scale and quality probably manufactured by the renowned firm 'Clay of King St. ,Covent Garden ,London' , but unmarked.
