Description

Impressive C20th cast composition 'stone' bust of "Ares" , the Greek God of War. Detailed large-scale classical study of the God depicted wearing his plumed /figural head-dress or helm , raised on a turned integral socle base .One of the Twelve Olympians, and the son of Zeus and Hera , in Greek literature Ares often represents the physical, violent untamed aspect of war, whilst also being known as the adulterous lover of Aphrodite. The Roman god counter-part was known as "Mars". This sculpture has been removed from a court-yard setting where the surface has gained a great naturally-weathered patina and surface, whilst it has not incurred any physical damage . A stunning decorative statement, indistinguishable in finish and size from an important and highly valuable marble equivalent.
H 37" x W 15" x D 12".
