C19th Regency period mahogany 'metamorphic' writing table. Rare form of mahogany centre/writing or library table with folding hinged top concealing writing compartment. The interior fitted with an adjustable folding ratcheted writing/reading slope, lidded compartments and a moving candle-stand/slide. A hidden gilded-brass catch on the base of the top releases the folding-top mechanism , whilst the lock and key secure it. Inlaid all over with ebony stringing and inlay ,of free-standing design, standing on 'standard-end' supports with shaped sabre legs, joined by a high turned stretcher and shaped bracket supports. Fitted with brass square box-toe castors. All in original untouched /'fresh to the market' condition. H 30" x W 36" x D 23" . England c.1810
