Late C19th Italian 'Grand Tour' souvenir carved alabaster sculpture of "Spinario" after the antique. Well-carved version of the iconic statue known as "The Thorn-puller" or "Lo Spinario".The sculptor has perfectly captured the intense concentration of the boy ,seated upon a rock ,attempting to extract a troublesome thorn from his foot. Based on a Greco-Roman hedonistic bronze sculpture now in the 'Palazzo dei Conservatori', Rome. Perfect condition. Signed to rear edge of base K.Capelli. H 9" .Italy, probably Naples or Rome c.1880
