Description

Tall pair of C18th Italian carved and silvered torcheres or candle-stands .
Raised on tri-form carved bases with cross-hatched shield panels and claw feet , the leaf carved stems supporting circular moulded-edge tops . The surfaces of the tops retaining some of the original simulated faux portoro marble painted decoration.
Both in as found , original , �country house� condition with some atmospheric wear and age-related losses to the silvering with some areas showing the red bole or gesso ground beneath. The silvered surface having general areas of flaking and evidence of extinct woodworm.
In strong and stable condition with strong decorative presence and appeal .
