Large late C19th polychrome-decorated four-fold ‘country-house’ canvas screen or room divider , in the manner of C18th Dutch tooled leather.
Tall and wide hinged and folding four-panel arch-top screen with elaborate floral rococo-style raised bright polychrome decoration . Each fold having 3 panels divided by embossed bands and corresponding bound edges. The obverse side having an ebonised wooden frame and a black background with hand-painted floral sprig decoration.
Highly decorative screen in imitation of a scarce C18th Dutch embossed and tooled leather screen, for use perhaps as a room-divider , privacy or draught screen or alternatively mounted flat against a wall to provide decorative a panelling feature.
In generally excellent ‘country-house’ condition, having only minor splits and repairs to the panels commensurate with age , use and purpose.
