Late C18th George III period mahogany “Channel Islands” or Jersey wardrobe of traditional ‘breakdown’ construction and format.
Fitted with 2 doors having triple fielded panels with box line inlaid decoration, the moulded cornice having a band of inlaid chequer decoration above a frieze with a line of further subtle inlaid decoration. The doors each fitted with a decorative brass escutcheon.
The sides of panelled construction and slotted into the single piece base , the whole raised on bracket feet. The rear having 2 panelled backboards .
The interior fitted with a removable shelf and brass hooks , the brass hanging rail at present deficient but will be replaced prior to sale .
These types of wardrobes , seemingly unique to The Channel Islands region , were designed and constructed to be easily dismantled and re-assembled allowing ease of transportation and movement. Because of these design features it makes the wardrobe very easy to install and accessible to stairs and tight areas . The original practical ‘flat-pack’ wardrobe.
In fresh-to-market, ‘country-house’ condition , though all complete and having achieved a rich colour and patina.
This Georgian mahogany wardrobe be cleaned, waxed and checked for ease of handling and use , in our workshops prior to sale and delivery. On site re-assembly can be arranged, depending on destination.
